The river Norðurá

The legendary salmon river, Norðurá, runs past our cabin. When it was more difficult for the salmon to jump the waterfalls, Glanni and Laxfoss, both father and grandfather of my wife fished trout in the river. This was before the horrendous beast the mink arrived. At that time there was a lot of trout in the river and no competition from the mink. Now the salmon has taken over and fishing enthusiasts like us have felt a bit sour for we never fish in the river. We just watch the fishermen out the living room window.

This weekend there was a change because we bought all three rods in the mountain area in company with Magnús my brother-in-law and Stefán my wife´s nephew. The conditions were great so we were lucki. The salmon was willing to take the flies and few salmons were caught.
